Lakshmi – Sumbha

“I am only 15 years old”

In 2014, Lakhmi (Name changed) was nominated for the project. She had previously paid little attention to her education. When the project began, she began attending school every day and paying close attention to what she was taught. She is currently in 10th grade in our project, along with her two brothers and two sisters. Next year she will write a board exam. Lakshmi’s age is about 15 years which is not fit to get married yet. But Lakshmi’s parents say that we will marry our daughter because this is the age of marriage in the Mushar society. Otherwise, it will be difficult for her to find a boy later on. People look at it wrongfully because she is a girl; if she does anything wrong, we may not be able to show our faces in society. There are many such girls in the village who have eloped with a boy from their village and got married. We are afraid as a consequence of this, so we want her to get married. But we explained to Lakshmi’s parents to let her finish her studies and take her matriculation exam. Nowadays, the girls are illuminating their parents’ names by excelling in school. Lakshmi aspires to make her parents proud by completing her studies and making a difference in her community. For the time being, her parents have agreed to let her finish her studies. She was very thankful to us to give counseling to her parents. At last, Finally, we wish her a successful life and the opportunity to make a difference as a good example in her community.

Navya– Shahari

“Aspire to become Lawyer”

Navya (Name changed) is one of our project girls. She is 12 years old and is currently in 7th grade. She does not wish to live in the environment in which her parents are living. Her mother and aunty both are working as dancers. Her family consists of her parents, aunt, uncle, grandmother, and grandfather Occasionally, a strange man would come into my house to meet my mother and aunty. He used to give money to Navya’s mother and aunty to order to meet the family’s housing needs. But she dislikes his attitude and behavior. When he came to her house, Navya would take food and walk in front of him. She has noticed that this man thinks of abusing her because her mother’s desire is to involve her also in her profession. She questioned herself/ thinks about how I’m living my life; like that she should also live her life. During a conversation, the Navya stated, “I want to study in the hostel because my mother always keeps me busy doing housework and does not allow me to go to the project.” Her mother says that I have only one daughter, and I’m not ready to leave her alone.

Navya wants to leave that society and live a good life, and she aspires to be a lawyer later in her life so that she can catch those culprits’ people who are doing such dirty work in society and wishes to wash their hands of it so that no one can see the prostitution work later. The agent who comes to her house and treats her mother badly wants her mother to get rid of her. She cannot do anything right now, but wants to bring happiness into her life through this project. Again,  she is keeping her dream of being a lawyer one day. As this is her current situation, it has impacted her badly mentally and emotionally. The education given to her through the project—what is the truth?  What kind of life should we live? She always remembers all these things inside herself. Her mother desires to make money by sending her daughter to a dance program and expressing her life lavishly.

“I aspire to become a lawyer one day to bring the truth to everyone. The reason behind my aspiration is to make people aware of all communities”

Sneha – Katdehri

“Education – is an opportunity”

Sneha (Name Changed) is also part of our project, though she is not a regular student. We have taken a small interview of her & parents. When the Project worker and his wife talked to Sneha’s parents we were able to understand the cause of Sneha’s irregularity. They explained how they had put their elder daughter; whose name is Manisha, into the dancing profession in order to compete with his brother ( Who has everything, including land, house, and money) to bring money into their house but it doesn’t work yet. We also asked some questions related to their feelings after putting their elder daughter into the dance profession. They also shared their feelings about what they have done with their daughter is so wrong anyways, we also asked about Sneha’s irregularity in our project, and her father blamed her wife for not allowing Sneha for this project. We also had given a counseling session to her mother to explain every aspect of the girl’s responsibility, after the counseling, she was ready to send her daughter to our project, as we have given assurity of taking care of her studies. Sneha also shared about her younger sister, who is already into the dance profession. We are more alert now too aware more people about the importance of education.

Monika – Pacheswan

“I don’t want to dance”

Monika (Name Changed) is the project’s child. She is 12 years old and in the seventh grade. She is the youngest of three brothers and four sisters. She comes from a poor family, her father is a construction worker.  Monika’s two sisters have been in the dance business for a long time. Because of their father’s will to get rid of poverty, he forced his two daughters into the dance business. Her father also wants Monika to join her sister’s dance group after she grows up. After forcing his daughters into the dancing business, money began to enter the house through this business, which grew up the greed of money of her father. Daughters are also afraid to oppose their father because if they do, their father will begin beating them. We also advised her parents not to place Monika in this profession because we are looking after her studies through this project and want to empower her to change her situation by educating her.

She was very grateful to SF for giving her this opportunity to continue her studies.
