Our EventsAs India celebrates its 72nd Republic Day. We also celebrated this day on 26th Jan in all our projects, we also took a week of between 25 to 29 January to conduct a workshop for enhancing our children’s knowledge by invited local govt authorities as chief guests to enlighten upon, different topics like; History of Republic, Preamble to the Constitution of India, The History of Great Indian flag and Six fundamentals’ rights irrespective of common people.
The projects re-opened on 4th Jan in 2021. The children started coming to the project to take tuition classes every day. On 26th Jan all the projects celebrated Republic Day, invited local govt authorities as chief guests. From 25th to 29th Jan, all the projects remain as a week off Republic Day. To enhance the knowledge of our project children, there were different topics for each day to teach the children like; History of Republic, Preamble to the Constitution of India, The History of Great Indian Flag, SIX FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS, Kingdom of God.
On Easter Day, our students made handmade Easter cards and wrote thanksgiving Easter messages to their sponsors to express their gratitude. As there are a lot of children in our project they were overjoyed and expressed their love by coloring and drawing pictures. On this day, they were ecstatic and had a great time.
Apart from this we also celebrated Valentine’s Day on February 14th. On this day, we taught our children about moral values.
In India, Holi is celebrated as the festival of colours. We also made sure that this day was remembered by all of our students. Children made large colored wings out of chart paper to represent an angle because “Holi is also recognized as a victory over evil works.” As we are in the shape of an angle, this activity taught children to do good to others. Children enjoyed & had a good time.
On 8th March, all the projects of Shanthi Foundation celebrated Women’s Day. On this day, we held a public awareness campaign to empower the girls & women of the society. To motivate all of our project’s children, we invited district officials such as the CWC officer, Child Protection Officer, DEO, DMO, women empowerment officer, and block officer to teach and emphasize the importance of developing girls to be self-sufficient and successful, highlighted “Say Not to Sell Girls to Dance for Money.” We also shared some short videos (JVI) of girls who are victims of abusive marriages, and so on. Invitees praised our organization for bringing marginalized caste children to the forefront.
On 15th august Shanthi Foundation celebrated Independence Day in all our 14 projects commemorates invited the local govt leaders. From each project 2 older children gave the speech in front of the chief guest. Through this activity, children got an opportunity to enhance their talents which helped them to develop their personalities. As a result, we had received appreciation from our guests for working among the marginalized children. Apart from this we also taught children to wash their hand, explained how to wear masks, and also distribute masks to prevent viruses in their bodies.
Global Handwashing Day is an annual global advocacy day dedicated to promoting soap-free hand washing as a simple, effective, and cost-effective method of disease prevention and lifesaving. Shanthi Foundation also celebrated 15th October by conducted a small rally and explained the demonstration of hand washing, which was well explained by the children and faculty members in order to raise awareness among their friends and family.

Villagers were so grateful to SF for educating them about hygiene and handwashing through this program and rally. Previously they were washing their hands but didn’t know the right process as well as the cause of the disease but after the rally villagers became more aware of bacteria that produce many types of disease such as diarrhea, cholera, pneumonia. We are so happy that we could make a great impact in the life of Nat community through this program.
Apart from this regular tuition classes for the children and a tailoring center for the Nat community girls were conducted.
On 13th November, we celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights that brings joy and happiness. On this day we held Rangoli craft competition, which delighted and entertained the children. Children also lit candles to symbolize victory over darkness and explained the importance of light in this world.
With 2.1 million HIV-positive people, India has the world’s third-largest HIV epidemic. India’s epidemic is concentrated among key affected populations, including sex workers. On 1st Dec Shanthi Foundation celebrated World Aids Day in all their 14 projects. Because most of our projects are running in the midst of the Nat community, who are most in a vulnerable condition. The majority of our project’s children’s families are involved in sex work and the dance profession. They are at high risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. This program was held to raise awareness among the children involved in our project. The children were given red ribbons to wear on their shirts as part of an awareness program to make them aware of how dangerous this disease is and that there are no treatments; prevention is the only cure.
On the occasion of Christmas, we provided Christmas gifts (blankets & trunk boxes) to the parents of our project children. The gift distribution of all the projects started from 14th Dec. Everyday project invited 2 parents with their family to project and shared the love of God by giving them gifts on their need basis. This process went on for 1 week in all the projects. Nearly 750 families were benefited. Apart from this all the project children were given new colour dress & sweaters.
